All aboard the brand new Melbourne Metro 2 train, leaving our new Fitzroy station!
Melbourne Metro 2 is still only a dream. But for a few hours on Sunday we brought it too life!
On Sunday 28 October 2018, we were joined by the Yarra Council Mayor Nguyen, Yarra Councillor Fristacky, Public Transport Users Association (PTUA) President Tony Morton, and Yarra community members. We opened a new station at Fitzroy and launched the first ever Melbourne Metro 2 (MM2) train!
The MM2 rail tunnel links Fitzroy to the Mernda rail line at Clifton Hill. From Fitzroy it heads west to connect with Metro 1 at Carlton-Parkville, through the CBD and to Fishermans’ Bend and Newport in the western suburbs.
It was fantastic to see the community embrace the idea! We grabbed selfies with people on the street, handed out fliers to folks in the shops and cafes of Brunswick Street, and got plenty of attention from passing cars and trams.
With less than a month til the election - now is the time to put the pressure on our pollies.
