The year was 1969, the Beatles were big, man had just walked on the moon, and most importantly, the Victorian government rolled out the first ever Melbourne Transportation Plan!
The only problem? It's now 2019 and Melbourne's transport is still based on this plan!
Next Wednesday we're celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Melbourne Transport Plan!
When: Wednesday 27 November, 10-10.30am
Where: Victorian Parliament Steps
What should I wear: 60's style! We're going to party like it's 1969!
In 1969, we were planning for a car-centric city. The plan projected a future Melbourne population of up to 3.7 million people.
So... what's the strategy as our city grows beyond 5 million people?
It was the wrong plan then, and it's the wrong plan now.
We have a vision for a new plan, one that's future-focussed, better-connected, and runs on clean, renewable energy. We know that you share this vision too.
We need as many supporters as possible to join us on the steps of Parliament to tell our pollies it's time for a new plan! Let's make this action BIG!
We look forward to seeing you there!
